Dynamic Balancing Arbor Services
Dynamic balancing of rotating parts can be extremely tricky when the component being balanced is part of an assembly and the shaft or spindle it mounts to is not available for use during the balancing process. As a result, a specialized dynamic balancing arbor to effectively clamp and hold the rotating part in place during dynamic balancing must be made to simulate the in-situ mounting. These dynamic balancing arbors often cost more than the balanced component. However, for production lots, the cost of the tooling is spread out over some quantity of components, helping to amortize the cost of the custom balancing arbor.
But not all rotating systems are big. Here at HI-TEK we generally consider “small rotors” under 1 pound in weight. Dynamic balancing small rotors require a precision interface to tooling and special concern for repeatability on and off tooling and balancing arbors. Many times small parts have shaft sizes under ¼ inch in diameter and they run at high speeds.

Providing driveshaft balancing services poses unique challenges. By nature, driveshafts are many times longer than they are wide. Vibration needs to be measured carefully and corrections must be made methodically to effectively remove unbalance. We provide driveshaft balancing services with our dedicated machines designed for and used exclusively for driveshafts. We anticipate material expansion and contraction when measuring and correcting unbalance. Driveshaft straightness is also a significant source of vibration.
