More About Welding

We wrote about some of our welding services a couple months ago and now we’re keeping our promise about the followup article! As we’ve said before, we offer many kinds of welding services and we want to make sure you know the difference between them. Here are a few more descriptions and explanations of the welding we can perform for you!

Spray welding. Just like it sounds, spray welding is when you heat very small pieces of metal and use dry compressed air to propel the molten material at the object you are welding. The small molten metal bits flatten out on impact and interlock to provide a very strong weld.

Hard facing. This is a process that involves attaching one durable metal to a less durable base metal. Often it is used to repair a worn down part or applied to a new part, to prolong its working lifetime. Having your parts hard-faced means that you will save significant machine downtime and productivity costs because your machine will run smoothly for longer intervals of time.

Flame spray welding. Often used for shaft journal repair and wear resistance, flame spray welding is a great way to save time on repairing larger parts. A special torch melts nickel powder into the area being welded, efficiently filling cracks and holes. Furnace welding would be another way to accomplish these repairs but it would take much longer as you would need to let the entire part slow-cool to avoid cracking.

If you have any questions about welding, please feel free to contact us.  We love to help our customers whether it is taking on a big project or just answering a question.
